Magdalen Island

Magdalen Island - This island was originally called either goat island or Slipsteen Island. It is surrounded by deep waters making it easy to dock boats. It was later called Cruger Island after Colonel John Church Cruger who built an elaborate estate in 1840 complete with fake ruins to appear like the romantic backdrop of Thomas’ Cole’s romantic paintings. The estate must have included an arbor.
